A derailed garage door should be left alone: no opener, no pushing it back by hand and nobody underneath. With the rollers out of the channel the door's weight sits on parts that were never built to carry it, and forcing it can bend sections and strain the cables. Call us and keep people and cars clear of the opening.
On arrival we clamp and support the door first, then find the trigger. A snapped cable, a worn roller, a bent track, a hit from a car or ice holding the bottom seal to the floor will each derail a door in a different way, and reseating the rollers without fixing the trigger just sets up the next derailment. Once the cause is fixed we guide the rollers back, true the track and check the door's balance and travel.
Clues a Roller Jumped Out of the Track
- One or more rollers visibly out of the channel
- One corner sits higher than the other or the door is jammed
- A crash, then a door jammed partway
- A cable slack, tangled or off its drum
- A bottom corner kicked out past the track
- The door took a hit from a car, ladder or ice

The opener then pulls on a door that is stuck at the floor, and something gives: a cable, a bracket or a roller. The cause is fixed, the rollers are guided back into the channel and the track is trued.

Balance, travel and auto-reverse are tested through full cycles before we leave.
