Weston is our northern neighbor, with Weston Town Hall on Town House Road about five miles from our office by road. It is one of the least densely settled towns inside Route 128, and it keeps that character on purpose, with conservation land, a rail trail and scenic roads between the houses.
Weston's housing came in two big waves. Country estates went up from the 1860s and were widespread by 1900, and after World War II the building of Route 128 and the Massachusetts Turnpike opened the way to subdividing former estates and farms. More than half of the housing stock was built between 1950 and 1979, largely single-family houses on large lots, and many of those postwar houses are now replaced by much larger ones. In the early 1950s the town also raised the amount of land needed to build a house.
