Framingham is our largest neighbor, a city of 72,362 people at the 2020 census that adopted a charter in 2017 and became a city on January 1, 2018. The Memorial Building on Concord Street, which serves as city hall, is about seven miles from our office by road.
Framingham's housing was built in layers. The town's housing plan, built on 2000 census data, found that 56 percent of single-family detached homes and 66 percent of condominiums date to the postwar period, that the median year of construction for owner-occupied homes was 1959, and that almost 70 percent of all housing was built before 1970. Shoppers World opened in 1951 and drew the houses around it. Older layers sit underneath, from the Saxonville mill village on the Sudbury River to the streets around Framingham Center Common.
A door from the 1960s has now had sixty years of use, paint and add-ons, and DASMA warns that paint and added material can push a door's weight past what its springs were built for.

🌊 What Framingham Garage Doors Are Up Against
Framingham is big enough that we plan it by side. Saxonville and Nobscot on the north side come by one set of roads, while South Framingham and the downtown rail line are separate stops. In the older mill streets we expect houses that predate the garage, with openings added later, and in the postwar neighborhoods we expect original one- and two-car doors that have been painted or insulated.
