Garage Door Questions We Hear Every Week
Straight answers from the Wellesley shop, each one linked to the page with the full story.
These are the questions that come up on the phone most often, written down so you can read them at two in the morning without waiting for a callback. If yours is not here, the dispatcher will answer it when you call.
What happens after I ask for a callback?
The dispatcher phones you back, asks what the door is doing and whether a car is shut inside, and tells you what is safe to try. Then you get an arrival window, and the technician quotes the job at the door before starting. Phone, email and the Worcester Street address are all on the contact page.
Do I pay for the diagnostic visit if the repair goes ahead?
No. Our starting prices put the diagnostic service call at $0 with a completed repair. Ask the dispatcher about a visit that ends without a repair before the truck is booked.
What will a snapped spring cost me in Wellesley?
Spring replacement starts from $150 per spring. The final figure depends on the spring size your door needs, and the technician gives it to you at the door. More detail is on the spring repair page.
The door slipped out of its track overnight. Can I still drive the car out?
Please leave it alone. A door hanging out of its rails can twist and drop, and the opener can make it worse. Call us, keep people and pets clear, and read the off-track repair page while you wait.
Which towns does the Worcester Street shop cover?
Wellesley, Newton, Natick, Needham, Framingham, Weston and Brookline. The service area list links to a page for each town.
Can you fit a door to an old carriage-house or odd-size opening?
Yes. We measure the opening itself and order the door, the track and the springs to suit it, rather than forcing a stock kit into an old frame. See new door installation.
Why do cold and road salt matter for my springs and cables?
Moisture and salt pit the steel, and pits are where fatigue cracks start, so a spring that survived the summer can let go on the first hard freeze. We fit coated springs and corrosion-resistant hardware for that reason. The cable repair page covers the frayed-cable side of it.
Will you repair my opener or insist on a new one?
We test it first. A worn gear, a failed logic board or a misaligned photo-eye can usually be fixed, and the opener repair page explains the common faults. When a unit is past saving, the opener installation page covers the replacement.
What gets checked before the technician leaves?
The balance of the door at half-open, the auto-reverse test, the photo-eyes and several full open-and-close cycles while you watch. That routine applies to every repair visit.
Can one dented section be changed without buying a whole door?
Often, yes, as long as the track, the springs and the other sections are sound and a matching section is still made. Panel work is quoted on site by door model and color; see panel replacement.
What makes a garage door grind and shriek when it moves?
Usually worn rollers or dry bearings. Roller replacement starts from $120 per set and tends to quiet the whole door. The roller page shows what we use.
Does anyone answer at night, on weekends and on holidays?
Yes, the phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The emergency page explains what we do first when a door fails after dark.
