A new opener works well only on a door that is already balanced, so installation starts with the door and not with the box. DASMA says an opener is designed to lift a properly balanced door, and that a heavy door needs a balance fix, not a stronger motor. We check the springs and track first, then choose a drive to suit the garage.
Choosing the drive is mostly about what sits above and beside the garage. Belt drives run quietest, which matters where a bedroom sits over the bay. Chain drives suit heavy detached doors. A wall-mount opener frees the ceiling when headroom is tight or a carriage-house door needs it. We fit the reinforcement bracket to the top section, mount the photo-eyes within six inches of the floor, sync the remotes and keypad, and show you the manual release before we leave.

Winter decides a few choices here. Storm outages happen, and without battery backup the opener cannot lift the door while the grid is down, so it is worth considering on any new unit. A cold garage stiffens the door, so we set force and travel for the coldest day rather than the install day. We set the rail, bracket, wiring and photo-eyes to the manufacturer's instructions and the six-inch height limit.
