Wellesley is where the office sits, at 888 Worcester St on Route 9, about a mile and a half from the middle of town by road. The town's own Unified Plan points out that two east-west lines divide it, the commuter rail tracks and Worcester Street, and most of our local calls fall into one of the strips they create.
Wellesley's housing stock grew from 3,905 units in 1940 to 6,930 in 1960, and the houses from that boom are still the backbone of the town, now surrounded by redevelopment. The same plan counts 614 house demolitions between 2007 and 2016, many of them smaller houses replaced by larger ones, and a 2017 demolition review bylaw that covers houses built before 1950. That leaves two kinds of door on one street: original postwar doors on their last springs, and new two- and three-car doors on big replacement houses.
The plan also reports that over 92 percent of the town's residential land is in single-family houses, and town bylaws prohibit overnight street parking, so cars live in garages and driveways through every storm. A dead door in January is a car shut inside the house.
