Natick is the next town west of us, with Natick Center about four miles from our office by road. It is also where our weather numbers come from: the federal climate station we cite for freezing days and snowfall sits in Natick, roughly two miles from our shop.
Much of Natick went up in one burst. After World War II contractors laid out tract neighborhoods from the late 1940s to the late 1950s: Sherwood's colonials in 1948, the Campanelli ranch houses of Wethersfield, and the small capes along Oak Street, many of which now get large additions or give way to bigger houses. Walnut Hill is another world, with Victorian houses along Walnut, Highland and Bacon Streets, and South Natick has antique houses along the Charles.
Lake Cochituate and Jennings Pond keep parts of town damp. Moisture is the thing that pits springs and cables, and the Natick station counts 143 days a year at or below 32°F.

We take Route 9 or Route 16 into Natick, which puts East Natick and Natick Center first on the route and West Natick, near the Framingham line, last. In the 1950s tract neighborhoods we expect modest one- and two-car openings that have been widened or added to, and in South Natick and Walnut Hill we expect older houses with taller or odd-size openings.
